The Football Association have launched an investigation into a yellow card received by an Arsenal player this season.
That comes after the unnamed player received a booking during a Premier League fixture that had an ‘unusual amount of money’ placed on it, according to The Athletic.
The same report claims that bookmakers flagged the incident with the FA after noticing that the pattern of betting and the amount staked were both ‘suspicious and highly unusual’.
“The FA is aware of the matter in question and are looking into it,” an FA spokesperson told The Athletic.
Players have been issued with lengthy suspensions in the past after being found guilty of manipulating games for betting purposes.
In 2018, Lincoln City defender Bradley Wood was handed a six-year ban for intentionally receiving yellow cards.
