Joan Laporta will decide if he is to run for Barcelona president again at the end of the year. Meanwhile, he’s already making statements, including his belief that renewing Messi’s contract should not be a problem, and that he would do anything to get Neymar back.
The lawyer Joan Laporta, who was president of FC Barcelona between 2003 and 2010, assured this Wednesday that he will announce “before the end of the year” if he decides or not to run for the elections to the presidency of the club, initially foreseen for the summer of 2021.
In a statement to ‘Deportes Cuatro’, Laporta indicated that he is still excited and has “a project for the future”. Although he has proposed not to reveal his plans before the end of the year, he admitted that he is gathering “a group of people” of his confidence, “professionals, with experience” to do so.
The lawyer has the desire to live the last stage of football players like Leo Messi. “I am very excited to manage this period, I see myself with them winning the Champions and League,” said Laporta, who joked about it when he remembered that in his stage “Madrid didn’t win a single one”.
As for Messi’s future, Laporta said that “he won’t have problems” with his extension, although he understands that as a captain he is upset. “If I were a player, I wouldn’t be very happy either,” he said. He referred in particular to the case of Neymar. The former president believes that “they were not clear” with the Brazilian. “I’d get Neymar back for sure,” he said.
And for the bench, Laporta also has a candidate. “Xavi? Of course it would be possible. It would be the natural solution, there will come a time when he will consider it. He has to decide when,” he said.
