Barcelona coach Quique Setién has made it clear that he wants to win the league title on the pitch and not because of a championship suspension. “I’m not going to feel like a champion with two more points,” he said.
These are turbulent times at Barça. The management is in the middle of rebuilding and the staff is kept on the sidelines, taking a strict training plan to return in the best possible shape.
Quique Setién has given an interview to ‘TV3’ to comment on the most important issue on the table: to be patient or to give up La Liga. In this case, what would happen to the title? Setién answered.
“I’d like to play and be champion by playing. But the reality is that the situation is as it is and it has been cut off. I don’t know if that would be enough to win the title, but I’m not going to feel like a champion even if I have two points on Madrid,” Setién explained.
The coach insists that getting society back to normal has to be : “This is a difficult situation for everybody and what I really worry about is solving this as soon as possible and we can go out and hug each other and see the elderly, who are suffering this situation more intensely. The rest is superfluous. If we have to finish and can’t play… and if we do and play, great.”
The coach has no doubts about what the goals are if everything is restarted. “I tell the players. I’m in quite a hurry and I don’t have much time to lose. I have dreamed of winning the Champions and LaLiga. To walk around Liencres with the Cup with the cows, with the Champions…”.
Finally, Setién answered a question about his future. The Cantabrian wants to finish his contract and reach an agreement with Barcelona to continue. “I hope to fulfill it and even renew,” he said.
